Ayah Al-Zubi
A huge welcome to HGEM's page! I am Ayah Al-Zubi, HGEM's president. I am a third-year at Harvard studying sociology and psychology. You'll find me in Leverett on campus, but I am originally Jordanian and residing in Ohio. My work falls into youth empowerment, female empowerment, and sports empowerment. I have started an organization, Impowera, that works to create culturally sensitive sports curriculum for young girls in Jordan. I have taught a sports justice course that featured NBA players and Olympic athletes, as well as given a Tedx Talk on diversity and youth leadership. On campus, you can find me directing a public service program, HOOPS, that works to build interpersonal and intrapersonal skills in elementary school students or balling out on the Women's Club Basketball Team. In my free time, you'll find me nature-ing, playing hoops, traveling, and learning about new cultures.
Emily Tsai
I’m a sophomore in Eliot House concentrating in Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology. At Harvard, I am part of Taiwanese Cultural Society and MIHNUET, which plays music for nursing homes and hospitals. Outside of class, I love to catch sunsets, take walks in thunderstorms, and play with dogs. I love being part of HGEM and I’m so excited for all our upcoming conferences!
Desiree Rickett
Hello World! My name is Desiree, and I am a sophomore at Harvard studying Economics with a secondary in either Computer Science or Statistics. I work closely with Harvard’s Institute of Politics and various occupational activities such as Women in Business, Smart Woman Securities, and the Women in Law Association. I am also a member of Harvard’s Intercollegiate Model UN team and am involved in various Harvard International Relations Council activities as well as Harvard Model Congress. At HGEM, I am the Director of Tech and Multimedia and help to manage our lovely website. I joined HGEM because I am passionate about extending opportunities to everyone to succeed, and in my free time, you can find me fishing, bullet journaling, traveling, exploring new restaurants, trying new hobbies, and obsessively collecting stationary.
Larisa Shrestha
Hi! My name is Larisa, and I am a senior in Pforzheimer House studying Neuroscience with a secondary in Economics at Harvard. Outside of classes, I work as a research intern at the Valera Lab within Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. During my time at Harvard, I have worked as a Course Assistant and a Peer Tutor for biochemistry and neurobiology classes. One of my favorite summers at Harvard was when I studied abroad at Oxford University and got to travel around the UK. Besides classes and research, I love making coffee, bullet journaling, warm fuzzy socks, and the smell of old books.
Hien Le
Hi everyone! My name is Hien, and I am a sophomore studying Social Anthropology and East Asian Studies, with a potential secondary in Statistics or Mathematical Sciences. I'm originally from Vietnam, and now Adams is my home away from home. When I am not frantically translating Korean texts for my research, you can find me on a spontaneous sunrise hike, teaching English to newly immigrated kids, or wandering along the Charles with my favorite books. This academic year I will be serving as the Director of Content for HGEM, in charge of the program-planning process for our much-awaited conferences. Please feel free to say hi and talk about education, innovation, changing (healing) the world with love and compassion (or literally whatever you want)!
Uluç KadıoGlu
I'm a junior at Harvard studying Government and Neurobiology with a secondary in Economics. I also pursue research in political science and in neurobiology/animal behavior. I joined HGEM during my first year at Harvard and have since served as Director of Philanthropy and Chief of Finance. Outside of Harvard, I am interested in learning new languages, traveling, watching football, and aviation.

Hi! My name is Trinh Nguyen. I am a freshman at Harvard College, studying Biomedical Engineering on the Pre-med track. Outside of school, I love to read, explore nature, and listen to Taylor Swift.
Tram Nguyen
I'm a senior in Leverett House, concentrating in Social Studies with a secondary in Ethnicity, Migration, and Rights. I am from Vietnam, but my family moved to Minnesota when I was twelve, and we have been calling Minnesota home since. I spent all of my junior year in Austin, Texas, with friends from Harvard and UT Austin, where I discovered my love for food trucks and live music. Throughout my summers at Harvard, I have studied abroad in Spain, participated in the Summer Urban Program with the Phillips Brooks House Association (a service organization on campus) with the Boston Refugee Youth Enrichment program, and most recently, interned as an analyst on the Corporate Strategy and Development team at TIAA. Outside the classroom, I love making chocolate chip cookies (the only thing I can bake, so please don't @ me), hiking and finding the best waterfalls, and listening to NPR!

Hello! I’m Abbeny Solís, and I’m a freshman interested in studying sociology and english. I’m a member of HGEM’s content board and work at the Harvard Ed Portal. I’m also a member of the first year social committee, Eleganza, and Latinas Unidas.
Angie Shoemaker
I am a senior at Harvard, studying Chemical and Physical Biology with a citation in Chinese. I am a writer in The Crimson on the Arts Board, dance in Expressions Dance Company, and enjoy teaching as an online tutor and HSA Pre-Med Academy instructor. I am also very passionate about my research as I work towards my senior thesis, which is focused on slowing/reversing the aging process at the David Sinclair lab, located at Harvard Medical School. You can usually catch me in the gym, practice room (playing viola), or grinding in Dunster library.
Annette Kim
I am Annette Kim and a current first year student at Harvard College. As part of HGEM's outreach team, I contribute to planning the multiple conferences that HGEM holds on youth empowerment and leadership which are both things I am passionate about. On my free time, I love exploring Boston and eating new foods with my friends.
Claudia Cabral
Hello! My name is Claudia, and I'm a graduating senior at Harvard College studying sociology and educational studies. I am part of the Finance team at HGEM and also a Chair for the 2022 HIC Dubai II Conference. Outside of HGEM, I am one of two Co-Directors for Social Science Education at the Pre-College Research Institute (PCRi) and a member of the Harvard Ballroom Dance Team (HBDT). In my free time, I enjoy dancing, meditation, yoga, and any other ways to connect more to myself, others, and the natural world.

Hi! My name is Ethan and I am on the Content Development board. I am a Junior studying Computer Science and Philosophy. Outside of classes, I love the outdoors. I enjoy all things backpacking, camping, hammocking, or simply going to the beach. I am a self proclaimed foodie and am always down to explore new food spots. I'm stoked for the HGEM conferences coming up!

Hi everyone! My name is Kellie Liu, and I am currently a sophomore concentrating in Neuroscience on the Mind, Brain, Behavior Track with a secondary in Economics. In HGEM, I am a part of the Internal Affairs Board and the Tech/Multimedia board! Outside of HGEM, I am also an associate in HAUSCR, a dancer in AADT, a member of the social board for Harvard’s Radio Broadcasting Club, and an athlete on the Harvard Badminton Club and the Harvard Golf Club! I am incredibly passionate about teaching and bridging the education gap, which is why I am so excited to continue working with HGEM these upcoming years. In my free time, I thoroughly enjoy reading, watching my favorite shows, trying new foods and catching up with friends!
Maria Fabal
Hello beautiful people! I am Maria, a first year student concentrating in Neuroscience on the pre-med track. I was proudly raised in a Dominican household in Providence, Rhode Island, but have been lucky enough to call Miami, Florida, home for the past 9 years. Besides soaking up the sun, you can always find me eating, dancing, or planning my next spontaneous adventure with family and friends. Throughout this past summer, I helped organize a national conference in the Dominican Republic, advocating for youth leadership and empowering those from underprivileged backgrounds to create their own opportunities. On campus, I am involved in many cultural affinity groups and am always eager to have meaningful conversations that go for hours on end.

Howdy! My name is Natural, and I'm a sophomore concentrating in Environmental Science and Engineering. I am from the nation's capital: Washington, DC! I enjoy reading, tinkering, and playing games with friends. I joined HGEM this year because I am passionate about service not only to my local community but to those abroad. I have been on two missionary trips in South America and have clocked over 300 hours of service in the greater Washington area. Besides HGEM, I am a member of the Harvard College Engineering Society and the Arete Fellowship. I joined the outreach and finance committees to contribute to HGEM according to my strengths.

I am a sophomore at Quincy house, concentrating in Computer Science with a secondary in economics. At Harvard, I am part of the Harvard Computer Society, Harvard Ventures, and HGEM. I also teach programming with the Harvard Student Association. Outside Harvard, I am interested in photography, cinematography, and making fun apps.

Hey there! I'm Michelle, and I am currently a first-year studying Applied Maths at Harvard! I'm also pre-med, and I'm interested in a variety of topics about the world ranging from economics and sociology to making the world a more equitable place for health. On campus, I'm involved in the Global Alliance for Medical Innovation (GAMI), debating, and research for the Harvard Foreign Policy Initiative. I love to explore places to eat in my free time!

Hi everyone! My name is Sasha, and I’m a freshman planning to study neuroscience and literature on the pre-med track. I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas but my family is from Thailand. I am passionate about the brain, education, and biomedical research. Beyond this, I am an advocate for female empowerment, gender equality, and disability rights. In my free time, I enjoy reading, watching movies, taking nature walks, having picnics, and playing the piano. This year at HGEM I am so excited to be on the Content Committee!

I'm a second year studying a joint concentration in History & Literature and Folklore & Mythology and a proud member of Adams House. I'm on the Internal Affairs and Finance committee on HGEM. Besides HGEM, I am also involved in the Harvard Vietnamese Association, the Harvard-Radcliffe Asian American Women's Association. I also write for Flyby blog and sing for the Harvard Noteables. In my free time, I like to read, binge Netflix, and learn languages.

Hi! My name is Claire, and I serve on the Internal Affairs committee in HGEM. I'm a freshman potentially looking to concentrate in STEM, though I also love to explore various, other fields and see how they might be applicable to STEM, and vice versa. In my free time, I like wandering around and checking out various buildings on campus, especially those with cool architecture and design!

Hi! My name is Dhwani, and I am freshman at Harvard originally from India. I am studying Applied Math and Economics with a secondary in Computer Science. I am interested in learning new languages, and currently, I am also taking introductory Italian. I love dancing and so, in college, I am a part of Harvard Ghungroo (south asian dance fest) and the Asian American Dance Troupe. I am also interested in politics, and I work at the Institute of Politics as a student liaison for political fellows. I joined HGEM my freshman fall, and I am part of the finance and internal affairs departments. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, trying out new cuisines, and reading.

Hi everyone! My name is Esha, and I am a freshman studying Neuroscience and Global Health on the premed track. I am originally from Pakistan, spent my childhood in Italy, and am now here. So, it's just natural for me to be passionate about global education and fascinated by various cultures. In HGEM, I serve on the internal affairs and content development teams! Outside of this, I am involved in a multitude of cultural groups, service programs through PBHA, and enjoy spending my free time mentoring seniors through the college application process. I am a huge fan of Atif Aslam songs, hours long conversations about anything and everything, and stressing in the last few minutes of sports games!

On campus, I’m also an editor on The Crimson, an associate with the Harvard College China Forum, the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations, Harvard Undergraduate Capital Partners, and a dancer with the Asian-American Dance Troupe.

Hi! My name is Julia and I am a first-year student from San Juan, Puerto Rico intending to concentrate on History and Literature with a Secondary in Education Studies. At HGEM, I am part of the Content Board and the HWIL SEA Committee. Outside of HGEM, I staff Harvard Model Congress and Harvard Model United Nations, and I am part of the board for the Harvard Undergraduate Studies in Education Club, where I help organize SPLASH. In my free time, I enjoy writing goofy stories, playing the Puerto Rican cuatro, obsessing over how pretty nature is, and arguing about Latin American politics.

Hey y'all! I'm a senior at Harvard studying computer science with a secondary in philosophy. I am on the tech and multimedia team, and I'm so excited to be part of HGEM for my third year. On campus, I'm involved with a backpacking club, teaching computer science, and volunteering. I also enjoy playing music and cooking. I can't wait for this year's conferences.

My name is Khin and I am a current sophomore studying Philosophy with a secondary in Education Studies. I am originally born and raised in a refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border, but now, I can call Washington State my home. I'm in the cozy house of Pforheimzer! I joined HGEM because I wanted to extend the impact that education has had on my family and I. My heart overflows with joy when I'm able to work with people, regardless of age or background. Outside of HGEM, I volunteer to teach ESL to Chinatown adults and I work with children in an afterschool program. I have a deep passion and interest in people and complex we can be, and enjoy talking to people on my podcast. I enjoy late night walks, creating new Spotify playlists, listening to podcasts, working out, journaling, and reading interesting books.
