What is HUGEM?

What do We do?

We’re a group of Harvard College students who travel the globe together (virtually and in-person), bringing Innovation Challenges and Leadership Workshops to high school and university students centered around sustainability, public health, education, technology, and more. Since June of 2020, we have held two virtual conferences in Southeast Asia and one in Europe. We are planning on bringing the Harvard Innovation Challenge to India in the Fall of 2021, Dubai in the Spring of 2022 and other parts of the world. As a growing student organization, we offer the environment of a startup, where each member gets to directly influence the mission of the club and the content of our conferences. Where do We do IT?

In July 2020, we held a virtual conference centered in Southeast Asia, although the application is open to any student globally. Over 160 delegates came to HGEM Innovation Challenge Southeast Asia I (HIC SEA I) and were exposed to many issues locally surrounding Youth Empowerment and Sustainability & Climate Action. We continued with HIC SEA II and HIC SEA III the following year. Our future plan includes HIC Europe Winter of 2021, HIC India Fall of 2022, and HIC Dubai Spring of 2022 (with high potential for an in-person experience!).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for proactive and motivated students who can not only work well in a team setting, but also work independently to improve the quality of the organization. HGEM prides itself on being an inclusive, kind, and growth-oriented team. Thus, we actively seek members who, even with little experience, come with enthusiasm, great energy, and Members should expect to contribute 1 - 2 hours of work per week, picking up more as the conference dates approach.
